Summer has finally arrived, which means longer days, warmer weather and maybe you have kids now home for the next couple of months. With warmer weather it also brings activities like swimming, being outdoors wearing sunscreen, sweating, etc which can do a number on your jewelry. I just wanted to take a moment to remind you the best ways to care for your jewelry and keep it looking like new during the months you are really able to show it off.
To keep your jewelry looking its best, we recommend that you don't wear it in swimming pools or in the shower. Just take it off before doing that and you will save time from cleaning it later. I also recommend putting it on AFTER you have applied sunscreen, allow it to soak in first, and never put it on before spraying hair products or perfume. Jewelry should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off.
For storing your jewelry I recommend storing it in an air tight bag and try not to keep it out in the open in your bathroom, there is too much moisture in there which will speed up the tarnish. With every purchase from our site we include a little zip lock bag. Every necklace will be carded and placed in this zip lock bag inside the gift box. For earrings and most bracelets you will find this bag under the cotton filling inside the box. We also include a little black square piece of paper. That is an anti tarnish strip. Keep that in the bag with your jewelry and it is another step against preventing tarnish.
If your jewelry has gotten dirty, take an old toothbrush (not the one you currently use for your teeth) and take some toothpaste and scrub your jewelry gently. This should take off any dirt or tarnish and have it shining like new again. I personally use a baking soda toothpaste which works great. I don't advise this method though for jewelry with a high polish, it could scratch the finish. A polishing cloth can be used on the chain and ear wires if needed but I don't recommend it for the silver piece itself due to the finish on it. Polishing cloths usually have a compound on them that can get stuck in the little lines of the finish and actually make the piece dirtier, while shining it up.
